One of the necessary and essential equipment in each laboratory is the laboratory hood. The laboratory hood is one of the ventilation systems that is active alongside the heating, cooling and HVAC systems, and is used for the following purposes

Application of laboratory hood

  • Protecting personnel while working with toxic and infectious substances: working with viruses, bacteria, parasites, etc. can create poison in the laboratory environment and laboratory hood can remove this poison from the laboratory. Disposing of infectious particles in the laboratory is done by the hood through the suction of the air evacuation tubes

How to work with a laboratory hood

– Always keep it working for ten to fifteen minutes before using any hood in the laboratory and disinfect it with 70% alcohol

 Do your job at the end of the hood

 Remove any samples or accessories in the hood

 Clean the hoods equipped with ultraviolet light once a week with alcohol

At the end of your work with a hood, disinfect it with alcohol of 70%

 After the end of your work, wait ten to fifteen minutes and then turn off the hood

 After turning off the lamp, close the window glass in front of the hood

 To use a flame, it’s best to have a gas hose

– A chemical laboratory hood has a chamber made of steel or MDF, and in front of it is a vertical glass, and the user can easily see the activity done by his hands
